Remediation works underway at Northumberland

Port of BlythThe Port of Blyth’s partner in Energy Central, Advance Northumberland, has reached a milestone in the redevelopment of the former Blyth Power Station Enterprise Zone in Blyth, which is to become the Northumberland Energy Park (phase 1).

The main purpose of this activity is to attract investment to bring the site back into use with a particular focus on the offshore energy sector, creating new jobs and boosting the local and regional economy. The contract to undertake the ground works and dock extension was awarded to Farrans Building and Civil Engineering, following a competitive tender process.

Martin Lawlor, Chief Executive at Port of Blyth, said: “We’re pleased to see that this hugely exciting development site and a key part of the Energy Central offering in Blyth, has reached a significant milestone with the appointment of a contractor.
These remediation works will deliver ideal conditions for an incoming investor from the energy sector to develop facilities that will bring jobs, opportunities and further investment to Blyth. With several serious enquiries for the site already at an advanced stage, we’re also supporting our partners at Advance Northumberland to market the site to interested parties.”

Northumberland Energy Park is owned by Advance Northumberland and covers a total of 200ha of land including the former Blyth Power Station and surrounding development land.
